Early Spring Camps are Open for Sign ups

New for this Month...Our Valentine's Special just for you - Bring a friend to class who has never been to Pulse and get their class and YOUR class free! Be sure to contact the instructors prior to class to get approval. We will only book the weekend classes, if available, 24hours in advance.

Kettlebell Cardio and Strength Camp with Melinda Langelier Mon,Wed 2/21/2011 - 4/6/2011 from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM Room: The Studio
Build strength, burn fat and maximize your muscular endurance by combining kettlebells, cardio and free weights. This fitcamp is sure to give you the full body workout you're looking for.

SOLD OUT- Indoor & Outdoor / Beach BootCamp with Jacki with Jacki Lane Thu,Tue 2/24/2011 - 4/21/2011 from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM. We'll meet at the studio but you have to come prepared to go outside... we might start with a run to the local stadium stairs or to First Beach or do Memorial Hill Sprints before we come in for conditioning... or we could even build snowmen on snow days with our kids... always something different! But if it's just too nasty out we'll keep it in the studio and get it done indoors

With Kathy's own special blend of programming you'll work hard and see results that you may never have seen in your body before! Kathy pays attention to your form and will teach you the CORRECT way to train functionally. You'll never get bored and you will rarely see the same routine twice and may see and feel muscles you may not even know you had! E-mail consultation, Nutritional Advice, Bodyfat testing including; measurements, before and after photos and homework for all the other days that you are not working with Kathy. New Classes!

Lots of new stuff coming your way this week and weekend!
We've been creating and designing new classes just for you....here's what's coming up:

'Get the Pulse' with Jacki Lane:
Either Jacki or Kathy will find the latest, mix it with our own style, and bring it to you. This workout is non-impact, focused on inner and outer thigh toning (extreme!) - you'll find muscles you didn't know you had, sweat, burn and sculpt without all of the runaround we usually put you through. A great mix to our bootcamp workout!

Schedule:
Monday Noon Pulse Special 60 Minutes
Thursday 10:30 Get the Pulse Toning + Yoga Intervals Mixed
Sunday 7am Get the Pulse + Cardio - Sundays will be spotty until 4/15 - classes available 2/6, 2,27, 3/20 & 3/27 - - after 4/15 - every Sunday...

The workouts will be VERY SIMILAR for the next 6 weeks.


Kettlebell Fusion - with Kathy Martin:

Incinerate bodyfat and boost your conditioning levels! Fusion combines Russian kettlebells with bodyweight exercises, jump rope, calisthenics,cycling, trampolines, plyometrics, sport drills to work your body from head to toe. Create the body of a long lean strong athete while bringing your stamina and strength to new levels. The many cardio options I have in the studio will accomodate those with limited capabilities or injuries. I'll always be prepared to accomodate anyone! Specific instruction on performing the kettlebell movements will be always be demonstrated! Limit 12 to 15 dependent on routine.

Schedule: Saturday mornings at 8am

FULL THROTTLE with Kathy Martin- class series

45 Minutes - proper warmup/demonstrations then anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes of cross training that'll bring you to the edge. Circuits and Complexes, Kettlebell MMA Combat Routines, Olympic Lifts, Bodyweight work, Tabata Protocols, Power Plyometrics, Medicine balls, Kettlebells, jump ropes. Multiple modes of training allow me to challenge your body in different manners, helping you build lean muscle and boosting your metabolism. This class is the answer to those limited on time and looking for quick and effective workout. Go FULL THROTTLE or Go Home!! This camp is not for beginners, please contact Kathy@pulsenewport.com for more details. 12 Sessions - No testing/No Homework. Start date has been moved to Feb 14th rather than March 4th - there is only one spot open in this series - so reserve now!

A note on classes:
Our weekend classes are overselling lately - so please be sure to sign up beforehand or contact the instructor to reserve your spot.

A note to our campers - if you are in the habit of showing up for makeups on the weekends or in some classes during the week, you could be turned away :(. Let's TRY to get to your camp sessions!

Class Cancellations: Monday 6:30am Storm Cycle (as of next week) and Friday 6:30am Kettlebells ends Feb 11 to accomodate the Full Throttle series - but that is a TEMPORARY end date - it may be held 2/18 and 2/25 so check the schedule for the updates.

Free Classes this Month

Looking for something different? We've got it coming next week!

FIT TO FIGHT!: Pulse is introducing a new class and a new instructor to our schedule. Erik Brechun will be teaching a new class series starting with two free classes January 18th at 5:30pm and January 20th at 6:30pm. Here's what it entails: The class covers a brief cardio workout to get the heart rate up, followed by strength training, shadowboxing and partner work. Then the fun starts. The class splits up into smaller groups, which rotate through combinations and drills found in traditional martial arts classes that focus on punching, kicking, elbows, knees and defense with an emphasis on proper technique.

A little bit about Erik.....
Erik is has been training in the martial arts of Chinese Kung Fu and Korean Hapkido for more than a decade and an instructor for the last 6 years in his home state of Colorado and more recently here in Rhode Island. He is a 2nd degree black belt under the Korea Kung Fu Association and the last person to achieve that rank under 9th degree black belt grandmaster Chul Woo Jung. Erik strives to maintain a realistic approach and open mind to teaching the martial arts across different formats while at the same time preserving the rich tradition, history and philosophy of the masters before him.

Kettlebell Strength and Conditioning Camp with Melinda Langelier:
This month Melinda is offering her Monday/Weds 4:30pm camp for FREE! Isn't that a nice word...FREE...yes it is! She is offering camp through the month of January so that YOU can get to know her and be introduced to her style of kettlebell conditioning training. Here's a little sample of what we are offering:
Bounce - 45 Minute ultra-high intensity, moderate impact cardio class on the mini trampoline followed by 10 minutes of core conditioning. Leave sweaty, release that stress and absorb those endorphins! (Loud music lovers only please.)
Storm Cycle - A mixed bag of cycling, trampoline madness, jumprope, weights, abs - whatever we can throw at you in 55 minutes to make sure you're panting when you leave! Sign up early - this will be a sell out class! Limit 12 in class.
Bounce and Weights or Kettlebells - all the fun of Bounce Class - interval style with either full body weights or Kettlebell work.
Cardio Combat Sculpt - Work with Annika weilding a 9-12 pound bodybar in cardio 'strike' segments mixed with jumprope, weighted core sculpting work and more in this hour long burn session! Leave knowing the next day you'll have a hard time sitting down and laughing... Get your frustrations out with each STRIKE and burn calories at the same time!
Yoga - Traditional yoga poses in our fresh new studio ~ calm, lengthen, stretch and breathe with
Dina. You'll need it if you're doing the rest of our stuff at PULSE!

All these plus a whole lot more will make your tired, boring aerobics classes a thing of the past. Our staff are all personal trainers and we are small enough to get to know you and your needs - be it in class or in camp. Our goal is for you to feel comfortable, well coached, and walk out feeling like you got the best workout you could get.

WE WILL BE CLOSED ALL DAY TOMORROW WEDNESDAY JANUARY 12TH - SEE YOU THURSDAY!
Our Camps are being Challenged this Month....
PULLUPS - So most of you who joined our camps this round are in the midst of learning pullups. Excuses such as I'm too old, I'm too heavy and I'm a girl are all irrelevant. Anyone can learn to do pullups with enough practice. There are a bunch of ways you can go about this but for now here's a tip: Grab onto a pull-up bar and get yourself in the top position by jumping up. Lower yourself slowly and jump back up on each rep. Use a 5 sec count on the way down. You should expect to be sore using this method!
WORKOUT OF THE WEEK:
No Equipment, little time? NO problem!
  • Pushups (3x15)
  • Inverted Row (3x8)
  • 1-leg Squat (3x8)
  • Bicycle Crunch (3x30)
  • Bulgarian Split Squat (3x8)

New Years Camps have begun with a BANG!
Congratulations to you of you who chose to join our fitcamps this January. We are happy to have such motivated groups of campers! After all the testing this week, we're sure most of you are rarin' to go and get the results YOU REALLY WANT.
